CORROSION PROPERTY OF CAST ALUMINUM IN ENGINE COOLANTS AT HEAT TRANSFER SURFACE
(Two Cells Assembly)
  STANDARDS: ASTM D 4340, JIS K 2234

A heat flux is established through a cast aluminium alloy typical of that used for engine cylinder heads while exposed to an engine coolant under a pressure of 193 kPa ( 28 psi ). The temperature of the aluminium specimen is maintained at 135°C and the test is continued for 1 week (168 h). The corrosion is estimated on the basis of the weight change of the test specimens.

  Apparatus Consists of:

Heat-Transfer Corrosion Cells 40 mm OD with 2.3 mm wall thickness, 530 mm height. Made of Pyrex
Temperature Controller Range of 0°C to 200°C
Band Heaters It is 1000 W, 230 V AC having 50 mm ID, 15 mm thick and 100 mm in length.
Pressure regulating system
Safety Shield An acrylic shield provides complete safety against any remote chances of cracking of cells.
